Your assessment for this topic will be in the form of a Trading Game Exercise. For this game you will be given a full lesson in order to understand how global trading works. You will be given a few simple instructions to start with and then set out to make as much money as you can in the time allotted. For this you will look, in depth, at a case study example of the extreme measures some people go to in order to move from their country. In this exciting topic you will study both earthquakes and volcanoes. Understanding the causes for these natural hazards and the effects they have on their surroundings is only part of this module. Your assessment for this topic will be in the form of a Newspaper Report. For this report you will need to produce a next day newspaper story for the 1995 Kobe Earthquake. You will need to outline the effects of the quake and reasons for the high death toll.

In Year 9 you have the opportunity to go on a fieldtrip to the Eden Project in Cornwall to learn more about ecosystems (particularly Rainforests) and Fairtrade by looking at the man-made biomes.

Your assessment for this topic will be in the form of an Energy Presentation. For this you will need to research a specific form of energy and present your findings to the rest of the class. You will need to work in groups of four to concentrate on the issues surrounding your energy type. You will need to rate each others presentations.

In this interesting topic you will study the processes that are found at the coast. Due to the changing nature of the coast and the increased threat from Global Warming, you will also study how the coast affects the people who live there. Other study areas will include:

 



Your assessment for this topic will be in the form of a Decision Making Exercise. In this assessment you will consider the impact of coastal erosion in East Yorkshire. A range of solutions to the problem will be offered to you for a range of different locations. In your write up you must determine a course of action for three locations.
